Congratulations to David Waihaki, our October Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to David Waihaki, our October Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month award winner.

A cheerful man, often seen with a smile on his face, David has an eye out for litter across Mahia and the Peninsula. After a lifestyle change, he noticed just how much litter is out there, and resolved to do more than his bit to clean it up. “Once I changed my diet and changed my mindset, I started looking around and found Mother Earth screaming out for help,” he said. “None of this rubbish is mine or ours, but this is our home.”

He believes that the more people who see him picking up litter, the fewer who will want to litter. He’s even had signage made up for the road into Mahia, and works with other charities on their anti-litter efforts too. He was recently named a TVNZ Good Sort, which he very much deserves! You can see more of his work and his encouraging videos on the Waste Warriors Facebook page.

Whakamihi  – congratulations! As this month’s Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month, David will receive a Keep New Zealand Beautiful merchandise pack and a Resene paint voucher, to help him continue his beautification efforts in Mahia. .
